The one undeniable truth about technology is that it’s always changing. Whether you are firmly implanted into a time-consuming software engineering position or are striving to maintain a work/life balance and have little time for updating your skillset, how do you find ways for keeping up with never-ending changes in your industry? Market Street Talent’s Senior Technology Recruiter Andrew Kladder gives us six ways to stay up-to-date without going back to school:

  1. Industry certifications. Certifications are two-fold: they provide you with up-to-date industry information while giving you the potential for higher pay. The Microsoft certifications keep developers on top of allfor Microsoft developers. Cisco certifications are great for network engineers who want to keep challenging themselves to higher levels.  VMware certifications are also very popular in the market right now. AWS (Amazon web services) have come out with some cool certifications as well to help people dive into cloud technologies.
  2. Networking events. If you had the time, you could likely hit a networking event every day of the week. In Boston alone, ten various events between now and the end of September around the city can keep you up to date in Security of Things, CSS development, IT and IT management.
  3. Meetup.com. This popular networking website isn’t just for finding a hiking or kayaking buddy. If you type “technology” in the search bar for your local area, you’ll likely find a meetup group to satisfy your needs, from women in technology to front end developers.
  4. StackOverflow. This question and answer site for professional and enthusiast programmers currently has over 12 million questions posed to members, not just in technology but in a vast array of other topics including home improvement, biology, and even bicycles.
  5. GitHub not only provides a place where developers can store each version of their myriad projects, they can also network with likeminded individual on subjects like design, music, and gaming.
  6. Online training. Lynda.com offers over 4000 courses to help its users gain various knowledge in business, technology, and creativity.
