Recruiting has always been a people-first business. The best recruiters foster long-lasting, trustworthy relationships because they understand that making a career move is a significant and consequential decision. That kind of emotional intelligence — reading between the lines, building trust, offering guidance — is something machines can't replicate. However, here's the truth: AI is not replacing recruiters. At Market Street Talent (MST), it's helping us become more efficient.
Let us explain.
At MST, we've embraced tools like ChatGPT and LinkedIn's AI features to support our day-to-day work, and it's been a game-changer! Every day, we utilize LinkedIn to connect with talent, track hiring trends, and share new and exciting opportunities. Over the past year, we've seen an increasing number of AI-driven features emerge on LinkedIn, including suggested messaging, profile insights, and more intelligent candidate matching.
Naturally, our team was initially skeptical. Still, we quickly learned that AI can help speed up the parts of the process that consume valuable time, allowing us to focus on what matters most: meaningful conversations, listening, advising, and building relationships.
The same goes for ChatGPT. Gone are the days of spending hours researching companies, being a market expert on salaries, or deciphering unfamiliar job titles (it's true, not every recruiter is an expert in every field — and that's okay). ChatGPT can quickly generate company overviews, share current market data, or help us better understand complex roles, giving us faster context so we can approach conversations more confidently and effectively.
What AI hasn't changed.
Daily recruiters often juggle dozens of roles, hundreds of resumes, and tight timelines. By automating some repetitive processes, AI doesn't just create efficiency — it builds capacity. However, let's be clear: the core of recruiting at Market Street Talent remains unchanged. We're still tailoring our outreach (not just copying templates), having honest conversations, and making sure candidates feel seen, heard, and supported throughout the process.
If anything, AI is helping us do more of the things we love — like spending extra time helping someone prepare for a big interview, or discussing whether a job offer really aligns with their long-term goals. When we're not bogged down in administrative work, we can be more present and strategic in every relationship we manage.
At the end of the day, it's still people hiring people. We're just getting a little help from technology along the way.
